ROHS Statement

Restriction on Hazardous Substances Directive (ROHS)

The Directive

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) 2002/95/EC was issued in February 2003 by the European Union. The RoHS directive takes effect on 1st July 2006 and restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. These materials are: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominate diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). The directive is closely linked with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods and is part of a legislative initiative to solve the problem of huge amounts of toxic e-waste.

ORS Ltd. ROHS Policy

i) Our expectations on purchasing goods

We expect that all products supplied to ORS Ltd. from 8th June 2006 are compliant with the requirements of the The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) (Directive 2002/95/EC). As such they do not contain lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium or the flame retardants PBDE (polybrominate diphenyl ethers) and PBB (polybrominated biphenyls) at or above 0.1% by weight in homogeneous materials and cadmium at 0.01% by weight in homogenous materials except where exemptions permit their use. All purchases made by ORS Ltd. will be placed on the basis that only RoHS compliant products will be supplied from 8th June 2006 and that suppliers will follow our policy laid out below in any cases of non-compliance.

ii) Our policy on supplying goods

We declare to our customers that we have been duly diligent in ensuring that all products supplied by us are compliant with the requirements of the The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) (Directive 2002/95/EC) through a formalized process which includes the collection and validation of materials declarations and selective materials analysis where necessary. This information is managed through a formal quality control system and will be made available to our customers if required to satisfy enforcement demands.

Non-Compliance

We ask that all our suppliers review the composition of parts sold to Satquip and categorize each item as compliant or non-compliant then submit this information to us using the Materials Declaration Form. In cases where components contain the restricted substances beyond the maximum concentration values listed above we require a notification from our supplier to state their intentions to make the necessary changes. If a product cannot be changed to meet the requirements of the RoHS directive, we require notification of this issue as soon as possible so that we can consider alternative products.
