Can You Overcharge a Phone Overnight?
Not too many years ago it would have been hard to believe that so much could depend on a small lithium battery, or even a mobile device used predominantly for making calls.
Today, with billions of mobile phone users worldwide, battery life has become a hot topic.
This is understandable when you take into account the many uses we have for these miniature computers.
No charge means no mobile phone, and this can have devastating effects on your communication, business and even social life these days. Without power in that battery, your mobile device has little u...Read More

The Ethernet Alliance today launched its Power over Ethernet (PoE) certification program. “Enabling swift and easy recognition of interoperable products designed to available IEEE 802.3 PoE standards, the program will elevate the user experience by minimizing market confusion between standards-based and proprietary PoE solutions,” the Ethernet Alliance said.
With analysts projecting PoE-enabled port and device shipments to reach close to 1 billion by 2021, the alliance says its PoE certification program is expected to attract strong interest from Ethernet ecosystem stakeholders. John D’Ambrosia...Read More

The time is almost up for the USB jack — called USB type A — that we've been using for over 2o years, as Intel has paved the way for the new USB-C standard to take over.
On Wednesday, Intel said it would make its Thunderbolt 3 technology royalty-free, which gives any device manufacturer much better incentive to use the technology. It said that would take effect "next year."
Intel's Thunderbolt 3 technology uses the USB type C, or USB-C, standard to plug devices into computers and other peripherals.
Here's what that means for you:
It'll change the way we connect our devices.
Your external hard drive...

Late last year, we showed you the Arc Hub, a circular USB-C hub we hoped would help improve the pitiful plight of third-party USB-C hubs currently on the market. After owning a 12-inch MacBook for two years now, I can tell you the only reliable option for a USB-C hub has been Apple’s $69 USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, which only comes with a HDMI and USB-A port, alongside the pass through USB-C port for charging. It’s not ideal.
Thankfully, the Arc Hub looks to be the answer — at least in the short term — to the USB-C hub problem.
The Arc Hub, designed by Bourge Design, is the best USB-C hu...

A new iPhone is coming and it is probably loaded with all the technology Apple can bring to bear —but the "iPhone 8" will probably be missing USB-C when it launches. AppleInsider explains why Apple will probably stick with Lightning for at least another year.
As we've said before, when there's smoke, there's fire. There's a lot of smoke about the "iPhone 8," or whatever it's ultimately going to be called. Some of the signals say USB-C will be used as the phone's main interface, but most of them don't say anything at all.
Despite rare rumors to the contrary, Apple will probably stick with Lightn...

We already know that the big mobile battle of the year is going to be the iPhone 8 versus the Galaxy S8. You can have a subjective argument about which device has the best design or sharpest camera, but one thing that’s harder to debate is the power of the processors inside.
Benchmarking apps like Geekbench can stress and test a processor and assign a score based on the results, and that’s apparently what one tipster has already managed to do for the iPhone 8. The news, unsurprisingly, is not good for Samsung.
A screenshot of an alleged Geekbench score has been posted by Slashleaks, and before w...Read More

Official Apple cables rarely seem to survive longer than a few months. In contrast, the Toughlink MFi-Certified Metal Braided Lightning Cable will probably outlast your iPhone. You canvia the Popular Science Shop.
You can happily use and abuse these Toughlink cables every day without causing any damage. They are protected by metal armor, but they flex like regular cables. The braiding also prevents tangles, while the crush-proof plugs are made from durable aluminum. That means you get total freedom of movement and impressive strength.

Purported drawings of iPhone 8’s logic board showing internal component layout leaked on the web Monday. The images indicate that Apple’s upcoming flagship won’t adopt USB-C after because the good ol’ Lightning port can be seen at the bottom of the device. Other things we can infer from the images, allegedly obtained from a Foxconn source, include an L-shaped battery, a display with True Tone capability similar to that on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and more.
The diagrams show an L-shaped two-cell battery pack (in yellow and orange) that KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned in February. Stacked logic b...Read More
